NUSI strongly demands the release of illegally detained sailors of MT Heroic Idun in Nigeria
On 25th November, National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) along with the seafarers and their families gathered in large numbers in New Delhi to protest against the illegal detention of innocent seafarers of MT Heroic Idun in Nigeria.
Furthermore, NUSI Delhi Branch Representative, Bro Prakash Thakur met with the Nigerian High Commissioner in New Delhi and raised the plight of Indian seafarers onboard MT Heroic Idun. A petition demanding immediate release of the seafarers was also submitted to the Nigerian High Commissioner.
At the ongoing ITF Seafarers Section Committee (SSC) meeting, Bro Sunil Nair, Asst General Secretary, NUSI and representatives from The Maritime Union of India (MUI) raised and condemned the illegal detention in Nigeria. Resulting in a collective motion been unanimously passed in support of the seafarers of MT Heroic Idun.
On the behest of NUSI, thousands of seafarers have also petitioned the ILO and IMO for the release of seafarers onboard MT Heroic Idun from Nigeria.
“NUSI will leave no stone unturned and shall fight consistently for getting our seafarers back safely from Nigeria,” said Mr Milind Kandalgaonkar, General Secretary -cum- Treasurer, NUSI.
