Every organisation has a beginning and a history. While our activities for seafarers are traced since 1896, it was given a proper structure of a trade union by Shri Mohamed Ebrahim Serang, Founder General Secretary of NUSI in the 1920s. Seafarers and the shipping fraternity celebrate 9th May every year as NUSI Founder Shri Mohamed Ebrahim Serang Day.
