NMB INDIA agreement, 2016

An historic National Maritime Board (India) NMB (I) agreement was finalised today. Mentioned below are the main points of the agreement. An increase of more than 33.5% cumulative in the basic wages was achieved in four year period. More details will follow. Long Live NUSI Seamen�s Unity Zindabad With warm regards, Abdulgani Y. Serang General Secretary-cum-Treasurer Vice Chair, ITF Seafarers Section- Asia Pacific Region Vice �Chair, ITF Asia Pacific Region ____________________________________________________________________________ Memorandum of Understanding arrived at the meeting of the National Maritime Board (India) NMB (I) held on 2nd April, 2016 in the office of the Indian National Ship owners Association (INSA). 1. The NMB (I) was concluded in respect of Ratings and Petty Officers serving on Foreign going, Home Trade and Offshore vessels of Indian flag. The last NMB (I) agreement concluded on 31st March, 2015. The agreement is an industry agreement across the board for types of vessels mentioned above. 2. a) It was agreed that for the period effective 1st April, 2015 till 31st March, 2016 there will be increase of 7.5 percent in the monthly basic wages. This amount will be given as arrears. b) It was agreed that for the period effective 1st April, 2016 till 31st March, 2017 there will be an increase of 10 percent in the monthly basic wages. c) It was agreed that for the period effective 1st April, 2017 till 31st March, 2018 there will be an increase of 7.5 percent in the monthly basic wages. d) It was agreed that for the period effective 1st April, 2018 till 31st March, 2019 there will be an increase of 5 percent in the monthly basic wages. 3. The notional manning will now be discontinued and manning will be as per safe manning. All existing exgratia will continue. 4. The arrears amount will only be paid after deducting 5 percent on the gross amount. This arrears amount will be deducted by the ship owners before effecting the arrears payment and will be deposited only with the Unions representing on the Seafarers Side of the National Maritime Board (India) (NMB) (I). 5. After the selection of the seafarers a letter giving their consent towards deduction of the membership will be taken by the ship owners and the amount will be deposited only with the Unions represented on the Seafarers Side of the National Maritime Board (India) (NMB) (I). 6. All member lines of INSA and MASSA will abide by the NMB (I) agreement in totality. 7. This MOU will be compiled with the existing NMB (I) clauses as required and a detailed agreement booklet will be printed tentatively before 30th April, 2016. Savings Clause Notwithstanding anything contained in this MOU no Rating or Petty Officer shall stand prejudiced of any benefits or privilege given as per earlier agreements except to the extent that they are revised by this MOU.
