Hundreds of seafarers, members of shipping fraternity, family members arrived in large numbers to participate to pay homage to the legendary Trade Union leader and NUSI Founder Shri Mohamed Ebrahi      m Serang on the evening of Wednesday, 9th May, 2018. 9th May every year is celebrated as NUSI Founder- Shri Mohamed Ebrahim Serang Day and is also a paid holiday for seafarers working on board Indian and foreign flag ships.

Shri Pradeep T. Rawat, Chairman, National Shipping Board, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Shri Atul Kulkarni, Advisor (International Project), Indian Ports Association graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. NUSI President, Capt. Nand Hiranandani presided the celebration function held at Indian Sailors Home Society on 9th May, 2018.

The beneficiaries of the various NUSI welfare initiatives, through the Trusts, like financial medical assistance, educational scholarship grant also received financial assistance on the occassion.

A gallery depicting the contribution of seafarers during the I & II World War, trade union movement and contribution of NUSI Founder- Shri Mohamed Ebrahim Serang was also displayed. The initiative of NUSI towards skills enhancement was displayed. Enthusiastic seafarers and delegates also enjoyed the various entertainment programs which was followed by dinner.
