ITF Seafarers Trust Shore Leave Survey

Circular no. 004 of 2024                                                                                                                     28th May, 2024

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Sub: ITF Seafarers Trust Shore Leave Survey

Shore leave for all ranks of seafarers, serving on all types of ships is very very important. Whether it is a merchant ship carrying cargo or cruise ship carrying passengers, or dredgers, tugs etc., all seafarers have a right to shore leave.

Unfortunately getting shore leave is not so simple in many parts of the world. Reasons or excuses for denial of shore leave can be a short stay, no shore welfare facilities, no conveyance, difficult immigration formalities, non-issuance of shore passes, corruption, less manning and many more.

You are aware that National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) has always raised the issue of shore leave at national and international level. Recently the Director General of Shipping has issued necessary guidelines for the issuance of the shore passes and has also highlighted the role of NUSI in this matter.

The ITF Seafarers Trust is appealing to all seafarers to fill-up the Shore Leave Survey. This will give us more details about the matter from the seafarers themselves. This will also enable the all concerned, including seafarers to continue their just demand for shore leave.

Kindly go through the message from the ITF Seafarers Trust and make sure that you fill-up the survey. It is for the collective benefit of seafarers throughout the world.

I am sure you will take part in this important survey.

Please click the link in the ITF Seafarers Trust message to complete the survey.
