Dear sisters and brothers,

Sub: “NUSI Skills Support” financial assistance to NUSI members in Covid pandemic

on the occasion of World Maritime Day and 125 years of NUSI celebrations

The Covid pandemic has been challenging for all our seafarers.  During the pandemic, seafarers and their family members are facing unemployment, difficulties in crew change, vaccination, extended contracts, certification, mental trauma, wellbeing issues etc.  Despite all difficulties, our seafarers and their families have faced problems with determination, passion and hard work.  One of the challenges for our seafarers is to renew the mandatory STCW courses or undergo skill enhancement training.  During a pandemic, seafarers have spent a lot of money to do these courses.

The World Maritime Day was celebrated today on 28th September, 2021. Mr. Amitabh Kumar, Director General of Shipping was the Chief Guest and Mr. Stephen Cotton, ITF General Secretary gave the keynote address on the topic “Seafarers : At the Core of Shipping’s Future”.  On this occasion, NUSI is pleased to announce “NUSI Skills Support” to provide financial assistance to NUSI members during the Covid pandemic.  This is part of the 125 years celebrations of NUSI.

This financial assistance, as per guidelines, during pandemic will be provided to NUSI members if they have paid course fees to do STCW or Skill courses.  This welfare initiative is open to NUSI members as below:-

  • The seafarer should be an up-to-date NUSI member for a minimum last three years.
  • NUSI will decide the amount of financial assistance as per guidelines.
  • Training courses should be between the period of 1st March, 2020 till 31st December, 2021.
  • NUSI members who wish to avail “NUSI Skills Support” should apply on the below link before 31st March, 2022.

https://forms.gle/va19j4uZghDTvK9e8
