Circular No. 17 of 2021                                                                                                                                31st May, 2021

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Sub: NUSI Vaccination Drive for all ranks of seafarers for ages 18+

(Pilot-project in Mumbai)

As you are aware that NUSI has been consistently in the forefront for Covid vaccination of seafarers throughout India.  Our seafarers need vaccination for their own safety and for continuation of their employment.  As per advise of NUSI, thousands of seafarers have already written to their State Chief Ministers demanding priority in State Vaccination.  Due to the pressures from seafarers, some States have declared and some States are yet to declare seafarers in priority.  NUSI, alongwith other maritime stakeholders including maritime administration, have taken up the vaccination matter individually and collectively.

We are pleased to inform you that NUSI Vaccination Drive for all ranks of seafarers will start very soon all over India.  The difficulty is getting the vaccines as per government procedures.  Vaccines are out of stock.  NUSI was able to facilitate 20,000 paid two doses of Covishield vaccines in Mumbai after lot of challenges.  The pilot-project in Mumbai will start from 10th June, 2021.  Presently the cost of each paid Covishield Vaccine is around Rs. 1200/- (Rs. Twelve Hundred).  We are further pleased to inform you that NUSI will refundRs. 1,000/- (Rs. One Thousand) to individual seafarers direct in their bank accounts.  We want to support all ranks of seafarers in these tough times.

NUSI wants to do similar pilot-project in other Indian cities also.  Seafarers are strongly advised to do some homework and find and give details to NUSI for getting paid vaccine in their own States so that NUSI can make contact and start pilot-project in your city also.

Easy steps to be followed by all ranks of seafarers

  • Go to COWIN registration link https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and register yourself for the Covishield Vaccination. You will get the Beneficiary Reference ID.

  • As explained this is pilot-project in Mumbai. Hence only those seafarers who can take the vaccines in Mumbai should register on first-come-first-basis as per guidelines.

  • The 2nd dose of Covishield will be given only on the basis of the date mentioned in COWIN.

  • NUSI will inform the seafarers about their vaccination date by email.

  • Seafarers registering second time will be disqualified.

Long Live NUSI                                                                                                                         Seafarers Unity Zindabad

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Sub:   Covid Vaccination priority for seafarers

Be a proud part of the movement, don’t be a spectator.

NUSI is trying with other stakeholders to get the Covid Vaccination on priority. The DG Shipping has advised all State Chief Secretaries to provide seafarers vaccination on priority. The State of Kerala and the State of Tamil Nadu have officially mentioned about seafarers in their official circulars because of the pressure of our seafarers in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

We are calling all ranks of seafarers, their family members, every member of the maritime fraternity to send a strong petition to their own State Chief Minister demanding seafarers priority in State vaccination. The details of State email, Twitter, Facebook are given below. In case some are missed out, then find out the details and send it on your own. Send a copy of your representation to NUSI at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you want vaccination for your own safety and for your employment, then at least send thousands of petitions on your own. Follow the example of our seafarers in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

By our last circular No. 14 dated 27th April, 2021 we had informed all seafarers to register at https://www.cowin.gov.in/homefor your own safety, for the safety of your family members.  It is also a requirement of many shipowners that they will give employment only to seafarers who have taken the doses of Covid vaccination.

The registration for the age group above 18 years has started from 28th April, 2021.                     Go immediately to https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and follow the simple instructions to register yourself.  You will have to get the vaccination on your own which is open from 1st May, 2021.

Due to the efforts of the maritime administration led by our Director General of Shipping,          Shri Amitabh Kumar, three additional facilities in the ports have been created exclusively for seafarers.  If you are staying in the cities of Mumbai, Kolkata and Cochin, then you should check the DGS circular 10 of 2021

As stated, seafarers have to register at https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and take their own vaccination.  But additionally, they can also take the benefit of the DGS circular 10 of 2021 and follow the instructions.  More facilities are planned by the DGS for other ports also.  Do keep on visiting https://www.dgshipping.gov.in/ and update yourself regularly.

We appreciate the efforts of the maritime administration for their proactive approach.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Sub: Registration for Covid – 19 Vaccination from 28th April, 2021

https://www.cowin.gov.in/home

Let me come straight to the point.

  • Thousands of our Indian seafarers are working on Indian/ foreign flag ships
  • Covid – 19 pandemic is a difficult situation for all of us and our families
  • NUSI / other stakeholders tried hard, but failed to get priority approval
  • Though “Key Workers” our seafarers did not get priority forCovid – 19 vaccine
  • Due to the increase in Covid – 19 cases, some countries have banned entry of Indians
  • Shipowners want only those seafarers who have taken Covid – 19 vaccination
  • It is directly affecting the employment of thousands of Indian seafarers

  • It is for the safety of all seafarers that they need to get the Covid – 19 vaccination
  • It is for the safety of your family that you need to get the Covid – 19 vaccination
  • If you want to continue to be a seafarer, then you need to get the vaccination
  • The matter is very serious and needs to be tackled urgently

The registration for the age group above 18 years is starting from 28th April, 2021.  Go immediately to the website https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and follow the simple instructions to register yourself.  The vaccination is open from 1st May, 2021.

Get your complete Covid – 19 vaccine doses and be ready for your employment.  As stated companies are only giving employment to those who have taken their doses of vaccine.  From our side, NUSI is facilitating the Covid – 19 vaccine from its 17 branch offices all over India.  We wish you and your family all the very best in this challenging situation.

Yours faithfully,
